The Athens classic Marathon is a unique race in the world. According to legend, it covers the same distance that the Athenian hero Pheidippides ran when he delivered news of victory from the battlefield of Marathon in 490 BC. So, if you decide to run the Athens Marathon, you will run in the very footsteps of the Ancient Greeks that gave birth to the Western civilization.
The starting point of the race is in the small city of Marathon and the finish line in the impressive Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympic Games were held. Runners run on the route that was mapped for the 1896 Olympic Games and it is supposed to be close to the route that Pheidippides followed. Most participants say that it is a unique experience they will never forget.
But, The Athens Classic Marathon is not just one more sporting event, a tough race of 42.195 kilometers. It is a bridge that connects legend and history. Furthermore, it symbolizes the unique values of sportsmanship, friendship, peace and the strength of the human will.
